He's doing it. He's listening. He can ease up for a moment, then. Just as long as he keeps providing what he wants. Once the medals are offered he releases Eiji's collar, then dives for them, grasps them, and absorbs them into himself. And then he recoils as a sudden flash of memory hits him.
He's on a rocky, sandy shoreline, fighting with Eiji Hino. Fighting desperately, knowing that it's for survival. Eiji Hino needs to be ended, or he'll keep him from what he wants most. They struggle wildly, stumble into the water, and Eiji throws him down into it. He tastes salt. He's chilled to his core. "What is it you want, anyway?! To become human?"
"It's much simpler than that!" He struggles to sit, he gasps for breath. "The one thing that'll let me taste the world! Life!" And that gives Eiji pause. Long enough for him to lash out, kick the man, throw him into the water. "Greeed aren't really alive. We're just things." He rises slowly, dripping wet. "And yet we've got more desire than humans. So much that no matter what we do, it's never enough! Can you understand what that's like?!"
"I do." No hesitation on Eiji's part. None. "I mean it. I really do. But I'm still going to stop you." And on they fight, harder, more violently, shouting about desire, about life, about everything that matters between them, until Ankh backhands him, shouting that he should want something for a damn change, then jumps him and straddles him and pulls him up by the collar.
"I wanted...." He's crying? "There was something I wanted once, but... I gave up on it. I tried to focus on just what was in front of me." There's something terrible behind Eiji eyes, something he can't identify. "The power to help people, no matter how far off they are! More, and more.... and then I got it." His voice catches. "You gave it to me."
His fingers clutch at the air as he remembers it all. And when memory and feeling stop overwhelming him, he jerks, spins in the air, and regards Eiji with nothing more to say.

"Thank you." He said, with utter sincerity.
