My tutor said I should make a blog to practice my written English in so I have made this. I have never made a blog before so I hope I am doing it right. Also I hope my English here is good. I will need it to be for when I start classes next week.

Is it normal for Western high schools to give you ESP tests?

Your English seems very good to me! Though I also speak it as a second language, so I may not be the best judge. I'm sure this will be a good way to practice, though.

Though I'm not sure that ESP testing is normal or common, you might ask an upperclassman when you start?

I guess I could do that. Or maybe ask one of the other students at the house I am boarding at. The House Mother says most of them are back now.

That could work! I'm sure there are a good number of students more familiar with the general rubric for western schools.

Ah, speaking of! Where are you from, if you don't mind my asking?

Oh! I'm from Tokyo as well, what a coincidence. Are you here on an exchange program?

No. My father decided to send me to America for high school.

...Oh. Well are you at least enjoying Venture City...?

It's all right. I miss Tokyo.

Yeah. It certainly isn't home.

Did you know that the nearest jinja is in Washington State? And the trains aren't very good in this country. I don't know if I could get there and back on a weekend.

Ah... I didn't. I suppose Shinto isn't exactly practiced very much here, is it.

No. It's really not.

I wish Papa had sent me to Hawaii for school, not California. Most of the American ones are there. The only other one on the mainland is in Colorado, which I understand is even farther probably.

Maybe you could visit on a school break. It's unfortunate that religions are so vastly different here, you'd think there would at least be places of worship for all universally, with as much of a melting pot as the United States is famed to be.

I hope I can. It seems like it's going to be very long until we have a break, though. But maybe I can get my brother to help. He owes me.

That's a great idea! Family should help each other out. Is your brother here in Venture City as well?

Probably.

Probably...? Do you not know where he is?

He travels around and he doesn't really tell people where he's going. He was here before, though. I think maybe he's staying with someone here? I have his phone number now, though, if I really want to talk to him.

Ah, a traveler. I've worked with a few of that sort before! I guess it's hard to tie them down when they're so used to moving around so much. I wish I were brave enough for that sort of lifestyle myself.

I think it's an irresponsible sort of life. What about the people they leave behind?

My brother has to travel for his work sometimes. It can't always be helped, I think.

if it was standard, i think it would have been with the rest of your entrance tests

It was my teachers. Tuesday morning, the House Mother (that's what I'm supposed to call the woman who runs the house that out of town and foreign students say it) said that instead of spending the day with my tutor I was going to be taking some tests with the teachers. And they gave me an ESP test and some others.
