Omegafriends, Episode 1: A Devious Deadline

It was a day like any other... but little did the Omegafriends know, disaster loomed on the horizon!

An Omeganet message cuts through the tranquil morning. On the other end, however, is no Omegafriend - it is none other than their sworn enemy, the genius scientist Dr. Devious!

"Greetings, Omegafools! I come to you bearing an ultimatum so simple that even your primitive brains should be able to comprehend it: If your precious Mayor doesn't surrender Venture City to me, then nothing awaits in the days to come save for doom and destruction! My latest creation has already been activated, and the means of Venture City's demise draws closer with each passing hour!"

"So which would you rather see: Venture City in ruins, or Venture City in control of the brilliant Dr. Devious? The choice is yours, fools!"

With a maniacal cackle, the transmission ends. Shortly afterwards, another one, this time from Protector, leader of the Omegafriends:

"It looks like Dr. Devious is up to her old diabolical tricks again! I don't know what she's planning, but we all need to be extra vigilant until we figure it out. No doubt another one of her crazy inventions is hidden somewhere in Venture City... I just hope we can find it before it's too late."

"Remember, so long as heroes stand together against evil, there is always hope. Protector out!"

All he really needed was to see the part. As soon as she was out of the machine, he held his right hand out for the piece, the visor's lens flaring and strange writing appearing along with a number of graphs.

"Let me take a look at it and then you can put it back."

Re-creating the piece wouldn't be an issue once he had the blueprint. This planet might be backwards in some of their tech, but he can use the raw materials to make nearly anything he needed once he had an understanding of what he wanted to make.

She had been hoping to just take the dang thing, but she decided to let him scan it. She lets him scan it over for a few moments before walking abck into the dangerous area by herself. She returns back out to them now with a look over at him, hopeful he could recreate the piece she needed. Backwaters she went to normally had some ancient civ or another in it, but earth's secret alien ruins were a lot harder to access than other places she was used to.

While it might be faster, Joji wasn't about to pay for the piece nor was he about to lose a potential ally in the good professor that let them in there in the first place. The specs his visor was drawing were not hard to copy; he had the necessary tools in the shop and he can strip whatever was needed from the local junk yard.

"Two hours," he decided, cracking his right hand. It felt warmer than normal, but then again it did pull some of the energy from the piece while he held it. "I can remake it in two hours. The hardest part will be the irradiated isotope."

She could understand the logic behind recreating it. She does think that this might be a dangerous solution all told, but should work as long as she did it right. She knew it would be a bit more complicated than given that she was trying to repair it rather than integrating chozo or some other tech directly into the suit. That's what she was used to.

"I'll be where we first met then then unless you need my help. I'll need to take this to my workshop to integrate it correctly," She took a moment to look around before starting to head out.

"I do not need help. I shall meet you there then."

In truth it would make it easier that he didn't have help. His methods were strange even without the added bonus of his artificial arm, and the last time anyone tried to help, he had ended up being tortured and branded a traitor. So while the Hunter went back to the woods, he went to the garage he worked out of, fired up his tools and started to work. The other mechanics at Dick's left him alone - everyone knew that he had a temper when it came to work - and he quickly rebuilt the pieces. The isotope recreation was solved by simply taking the stored energy from his arm and charging the proper piece.

He then made his way back to the meeting place and waited for the Hunter to appear, this time playing a game of solitaire with his strangely marked cards to pass the time with.

What Samus did was her own business. Though really that was because she was doing her best to be normal which mostly consisted of not wearing armor and wandering around like a lost puppy. Well, not so much a lost puppy as a lost bear. She did get back pretty quickly on time, not noticing his cards immediately. Though they do come to mind as she comes closer.

"I'll see if I can integrate it now. What's with the cards?" she asked.

"reminders of home," he said, shuffling the cards together, wrapping a hairband around them and placing them aside. He then took out the case and held it out to her.

"I made a slight adjustment to the charge since the original piece could only carry a spark without the added equipment of the lab around it. Otherwise it should be the same."

She just nodded to the reminders of home. Not much more she needed to say there. She took the part gently and looks it over. "I'll be a bit. Need to head to my own workshop," She said. She gave a little wave as she walked off into the forest and over a hill.

She returned about an hour later, her visor gray now as she gave a nod. "X-Ray online. Thanks for the help. Anything I can do?"

He was back with the cards, playing a complicated form of solitaire that usually needed four packs of cards. At her approach, he shuffled them back together and put them into a pocket of his jacket.

"In exchange? Nothing I can think of at the moment unless you can get some tellurium."

"That's actually pretty common where I'm from. I don't carry a bulk supply, but I do carry some extra to work into alloy manufacture if I need. How much do you need?"

Tellerium was very common in space, it just tended to not wind up in planet's crusts.

"I think a few ounces would work," he said. In the past, when he needed that particular element for a bit of tricky work, the troopers had to make a special trip to drag home some. Away from Shocker, he had to make due with what he could scrape from other materials, but to get a pure form would work the best.

"Right. Back in a few minutes," She said, heading off a bit faster now. She returns with a small box of it in her free hand to offer it over to him. "Somewhat toxic, but there's a few gram block. Close equivalence to ounces. More used to base ten measurement systems, so you'll forgive me for using metric." She wasn't sure if measurement systems were serious business or not!

"Thank you."

Measurement systems can be for some but he never thought it mattered that much. One was based off of units of ten while other systems were a mess of whatever worked best at the time. Joji had a more instinctive method to work with and never truly spent his time with the fiddling bits of making things.

"Yes, I also know that it is brittle in it's pure state but helps with mechanics and conducting. It's why I need some."

"I know. We use it plenty where I'm from and I use it when I'm working. Why I can't just toss too much around. Since you know your way around better than me though, would you happen to know the location of a Photon generator, EM containment coils, or Electro-Wave Controlled Generator?" She asked.

"The same for me. Unfortunately, this planet is slightly backwards when it comes to technology."

At the list of stuff she wished to find, he frowned and slowly shook his head. "I think that the rest can only be found as either in the hands of mad scientists or government contractors. They are not that common. In fact, for some it may be only the stuff of science fiction."

"Well, on Earth, certainly. I know those devices are the closest low tech alternatives to what I would normally use. Except the EM containment coils. Absolute required for plasma containment." She took a moment to think before nodding to her. "Unfortunate this is such a backwaters. It'll be a while still before my ship is operational again."

"Maybe we will find a mad scientist lair one of these days. If that is the case, I can always help in securing the necessary supplies to either build such things or help with containing ones that are already made."

He might be able to cobble something together, but the system needs something more than a work bench in the back corner of a motorcycle repair shop. He needed a lair with all the equipment money could buy - or that he could steal - to build complex machines.
