[ACTION 1; NEAR CLINKERS -- FOR JOJI]

[This seemed like the right place all right. The nice thing is that he doesn't have to lie to Kaede anymore about where he's going, although she does fuss over him a bit now. He's still not sure what this is going to entail; he knows he's basically fighting against nature, or what amounts to it in regards to supers. But if he can just stretch things a few more years, that's all he can ask for. And maybe after that, stick with consulting? Who knows.

He wonders how he'll know who he's meeting. Then again, it's not like there's that many people around here.]

[ACTION 2; BACK AT OMEGABASE]

[Once THAT errand was taken care of, all that remained was the matter of meeting his new, er... student? Ward? He's not sure what you call it. Is he just trying to make sure the kid doesn't try to break open any more zoos? He wonders.

He also yawns. Hey, he's been running around today, give him a break.]

...Yeah, okay, this guy -- cat? -- is a real piece of work. Geez.

He walks up behind the cat and quickly -- LOUDLY -- clears his throat.

Won't be denying that, Kotetsu. There's a reason some people say they never want to work with kids.

He flinches, turning his eyes up to the man and straightens himself, jumping to his feet and sitting down, as if at attention. Yessir?

And probably the hammiest, yet clearly nervous smiles one can make with a jaw like his.

"Oh. Um. Hi. Sorry I'm late?"

He suppresses a slight twitch. Not that he can exactly say he's ever been the most punctual guy in the world himself, but half the time that was because he kept having to save random members of the public. Which he usually explained as just "having slept through the alarm" because it was less hassle to explain. "All right, you know what? First things first, you gotta take this a little more seriously. People's lives are on the balance when you're a superhero, you know!" There. That seemed like an appropriately mentory thing to say, right?

He should have expected this for strolling in as casually as he did. Having been told he does need to understand there are consequences for his actions, he really should be thinking about that. Turning his head down, he looks like a kid who's being scolded, kicking the dirt with his untied shoes.

Yeah, he gets it, but so far he really hasn't gotten anyone killed!

"I know! But I figured as long as I don't go goofing off on the job everything would be fine."

There were those who showed off too much, but Shadow often treated it like a hunt, but in translation, viewing him at work he too often seemed to be playing than actually using his powers and skills efficiently.

"It's not about what YOU do, it's about how you're working with others! You don't get along with others, what's the point of even being on a team? That's lesson one! Pay attention to your teammates!"

Says the guy who went solo for a while when the Alpha Pals broke up. Then again, there were a few times he could've used some backup, much as he hated to admit it.

See, now he just feels like he's being yelled at, and that said, he doesn't quite know how to respond other than being silent and withdrawing himself physically. He rumbles softly, peering up at Kotetsu once he has a break to respond, then his ears perk. What the man said was a bit different than what he thought it was going to be.

But he then paying attention to your teammates and respecting them were sort of the same thing, right? Was that what he was going for? Must be.

"Okay. Yes sir." He nods, straightening himself a bit but turning his eyes away once again.

Kotetsu stares at him, then sighs, lifting his hat off his head to scratch a bit under it. "Just... Yeah. That's as good a start to doing the hero thing as any," he says at last. He straightens up. "Anyway! You ready for a good old fashioned patrol, fellow Omegafriend?"

Okay, so he'd be doing it in his street clothes and mask. He's still waiting for the suit, okay?

Shadow on the other hand is going for a weather friendly pair of shorts. This early in the morning he didn't feel a need for his jumpsuit. It was armored and supported him when he stood on his hind legs, but it wasn't really needed for now, was it?

"You bet!" The thing he came here for. Something fun!

And believe us, Kotetsu is still trying to get over the odd sight of a lion wearing clothing. They actually care about that sort of thing?

"Okay! We're heading to the Soho area for now. Lotta crime, but usually kinda petty stuff. That's a good start, I think! Let's go!" He begins to jog towards the train back to the city. You have to wonder how a guy who's supposed to be so renowned as a hero can jog so dorkily.

One who was turned from a human does, if only because grew up the past few years in a colder climate and it was probably just a good idea to cover up lest some overly sensitive mother complain when he got older.

The response is a light rumble as he takes off after Kotetsu in a light trot. He didn't actually notice how goofy the gait was, as it wasn't really something that really caught his attention. Were Kotetsu to run with a limp, however, that would be hard not to notice.

"How fast can you run anyway?" Faster than a real tiger?

"Who me? Depends. Right now, probably slightly faster than the average guy," he replies as they approach the train back. "But when the Hundred Power kicks in, hoo boy. That's when you REALLY see me go!" He flexes his arm. "...but I can only go that fast for about, uh..."

He clears his throat. "A minute." He hopes that this guy doesn't know too much about him so he knows how much that's different from his official profile. "Then I gotta wait an hour."

Only one minute? That wasn't very long, but he had his own experiences to inform him that things can happen very fast sometimes. Too fast. He chuffed out air at his nose in response to Kotetsu's arm flexing. What a dork.

"How do you make it work though? What if there's a guy who's got super defenses and can take a punch from you for more than a minute?" Well, wait. Kotetsu is extremely strong even with the limits, right? Was there anyone who could actually stand against him?

A good question. Hell, sometimes five minutes had been barely enough. Thankfully, it's a question Kotetsu's had some time to ponder. The reduction of strength had given him some time to flex his mental muscles -- although he'd still run off a short pier on accident if he was in a rush. So it goes.

"That just means you gotta figure out non-muscle ways to soften them up before! You can do a heck of a lot in a minute, but only if you time that minute perfectly!" He gives a thumbs up. It's probably for the best he doesn't know Shadow's exact thoughts about him; the lion would probably find it a heck of a letdown to know just how close to baseline he was without the power.

The two get on the train. "Anyway, brute force can't solve everything, you know. Sometimes you gotta actually think things through." As much as he hated to admit it.

That sentiment was relatable, after all Shadow would not be considered a heavy hitter even while his natural attributes were enhanced due to his powers. Among your typical criminal he could be considered a very intimidating threat, but super powered crooks were something altogether more challenging depending on what he's up against.

No wonder he had been retired. Following Kotetsu onto the train, he twitches his tail at the 'think things through.' Oh yeah, he's been told that about a million times in the last few months.

"Brute force doesn't even really work against guns sometimes. So even against normal people it can be tough. But I think I have a leg up on that."

"Well to be more frank, you got four legs up on that!" He yuks it up at his own bad joke. "Sorry, sorry, couldn't resist. Anyway, you just gotta learn how to gauge the situation, you know? At least as much as to know what your priorities are." Kotetsu ALWAYS knows HIS priorities: saving people. Criminals are secondary to that.

The train lurches and begins to move to take them back to the mainland.

"What should my priorities be?" It was a pointed question, you are his mentor after all. It wasn't though he didn't have his own idea of what his priorities ought to be, it's just that sometimes his priorities align towards his own needs rather than others.

That and he has a small problem with making terrible judgement calls.

"That's the most important thing you gotta know about being a hero! You have one chief priority, and one only!"

He raises a finger dramatically. "You've got to protect people over anything else! Even if it means letting a criminal get away for the time being, saving lives should always be your first impulse!"

"But letting the badguy get away means he can strike again and hurt more people." He nearly scowled. The villain who hurt him is still at large on that terrible island, probably doing more horrible things to other people.

Probably explains his "get the badguy" frame of mind.

"There's ALWAYS time to get the bad guy again -- but there's not always time to keep an innocent life from being lost!" He nods sagely. "And what good are we if we're not preventing someone's life from being lost?"

The train slowly pulls into the station on the other side. Kotetsu gets up. "Anyway, ready to go?"
